Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked (Jewish Home) met with Reform Rabbi Brian Lurie in Washington last week, over a discussion on how to integrate Israeli Arabs into Israeli society.

Brian Lurie is the president of the extreme leftist New Israel Fund (NIF) - a fact Shaked only found out upon entering the meeting.

According to a Haaretz report, Lurie greeted Shaked and shook her hand warmly before announcing who he was, changing the atmosphere in the room dramatically with the bombshell.

Lurie considerately suggested he leave, but Shaked told him to stay, insofar as he was already present.

Most of the discussion centered around the topic at hand despite the faux pas, but did include a few tense moments wherein Lurie pitched the purpose of his organization, which has been linked with a plethora of anti-Israel activity.

Shaked openly responded with criticism over the fund's support for various anti-Israel groups and for providing data for the 2009 Goldstone Report, which perpetuated misnomers about Israel's conduct during Operation Cast Lead in Gaza to the masses and to the forefront of international policymaking.

"Maybe re-consider sending aid to them," she suggested regarding the virulently anti-Israel groups. Lurie promised to check.

Shaked clarified this week that her views on the NIF have not changed.
