House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday night said that the United States respected Israel's electoral choices, and that discussions on the peace process and other matters were likely to restart soon.

“I expect that there will be a lively discussion of the peace process” and other matters, Pelosi said in response to a reporter's questions.

"The people of Israel have spoken. I respect the results they they have produced. I think that what they have produced will be a continued lively discussion about the peace process," she said.

Pelosi added that the US relationship with Israel is strong and will remain so: "It doesn't depend on personalities. It's about values that we share. And we look forward to continuing our work together."

In a statement, the White House said that President Barack Obama will call Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to congratulate him on his victory in Tuesday's elections “in the coming days.”

Instead of calling himself, Obama had Secretary of State John Kerry call Netanyahu to give him the administration's “good wishes,” after a White House aide said that the US wanted to give Netanyahu “space” to establish a new government.

The White House said that security cooperation between the US and Israel would continue, but Earnest added that "it continues to be the view of the president that a two state solution is the best way to address those tensions. In the context of the recent election Prime Minister Netanyahu indicated a change in his position, based on those comments the United States will evaluate our approach to the situation.”
