Jerusalem's prosecution filed an indictment Sunday morning with the Juvenile District Court against a 17-year-old Arab boy, for attempting to murder Jews in the capital last month.

The boy is accused of stabbing a haredi man in the stomach at Jerusalem's Tzahal Square on February 22. Mayor Nir Barkat and his bodyguard happened to be nearby and they tackled and restrained the terrorist.

The indictment also includes charges that the boy crafted and then threw pipe bombs, firebombs, fireworks and stones at IDF forces during last summer's Operation Protective Edge.

According to the indictment, the terrorist sneaked into Israel through a gap in the separation fence, stole a knife from a store near the Damascus Gate entrance into the Old City, and went to Tzahal Square with the express purpose of carrying out a terror attack.

When the boy saw haredi man, Avraham Goldschmidt, he attacked and stabbed him in the stomach with the intent to kill him.

During an investigation after the attack, the terrorist told his IsraelSecurity Agency (ISA, or Shin Bet) interrogators that he selected a haredi man as his victim because he “hates the religious Jews.”

As the minor continued to try and stab the victim elsewhere, Goldschmidt yelled out "stabbing" and ran to the street. Mayor Barkat, his bureau chief, security guard, and driver happened to be on the road at the exact moment and exited their vehicle to help.

The guard pulled out his weapon toward the terrorist who threw the knife out of his hand in response. The guard and the Mayor neutralized the boy and gave medical assistance to Goldschmidt.

According to indictment, the minor's actions were intentional and he desired to kill.
