The Commander of an Iranian Air Defense Base, Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli, says Iran's new radar system, named 'Sepehr' ('Sky'), enables the country to monitor every enemy takeoff and launch, at a range of up to 2,500 km.

Israel is less than 2,000 km away from Iran.

Over 40% of Sepehr's deployment has been completed without any problem, Esmayeeli told Iran's Fars News Agency on Sunday.

He said once fully deployed, the radar system will cover such a wide range that Iranian forces will be able to monitor jet flights and missile launches as soon as they begin from enemy bases thousands of kilometers away.

"The radar will be included in the integrated air defense network in future after it is fully deployed, and then we will be able to even feel the enemies' breathing in their bases with the help of the 2,500 to 3,000 km range (of the radar)," he said.

Esmayeeli claimed that the country's airspace will be fully protected against threats after the deployment of Sepehr.

Iran unveiled the Sepehr radar system in November, saying that it can detect the trajectories of satellite and space objects.

The system “can detect stealth targets and micro UAVs at low, medium and high altitudes while it can also very easily identify and detect ballistic, semi-ballistic and cruise missiles," Lieutenant Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Shahrokh Shahram said at the unveiling ceremony.
