Economy Minister and Jewish Home chairman Naftali Bennett on Tuesday blasted Opposition leader Yitzhak Herzog, and called on him to stop undermining Israel's foreign policy in terms of fighting the Iranian nuclear program.
“Buji, stop undermining the foreign policy of the Government of Israel and Binyamin Netanyahu. Do you not realize you are harming us all?" Bennett wrote on his Facebook page, referring to Herzog using his nickname.
“For many weeks you have been eating away at Netanyahu's efforts to halt Iran's nuclear program,” he charged.
According to Bennett, Herzog leaves the country and criticizes the government's efforts to put pressure on Iran, and attacks from every stage Netanyahu’s speech in Congress next month.
“Do you not understand that this gives a boost to our enemies (even if your intention is only a political one)?” wrote Bennett.
He stressed that the agreement between Iran and the six world powers is “terrible”, as he put it, and called on Herzog, “Criticize us as much as you want on security, the economy, on social and political issues, but not about the current process involving Iran and not to the world, for G-d’s sake.”
Herzog has come under fire in recent days, after he attended the international Munich Security Conference and had an impromptu meeting with United States Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State John Kerry.
Herzog’s meeting with Biden came a day after an official announcement that Biden would not be attending the controversial joint Congress speech given by Netanyahu and had Likud MKs up in arms.
The Labor leader tried to downplay the meeting, noting that it was a friendly, random encounter in a hallway during the conference, and only lasted a few moments.
The Likud party, however, was not the only party to criticize Herzog’s behavior. Yesh Atid Chairman Yair Lapid joined the fray Sunday, accusing Herzog of publicly bashing Israel's current foreign policy and "airing your dirty laundry" in front of the entire world.
"What we've seen in the last few days is a loss of rationale regarding the Iranian issue, which is a much more important issue than the political needs of all political parties," Lapid said.
"Buji made a mistake - you do not attack the incumbent prime minister abroad and in front of foreign media on a subject like the Iranian issue," he added.
