An Israeli humanitarian agency is working to help some of the hundreds of thousands of families left homeless after Typhoon Hagupit (locally called Ruby) swept across the Philippines last week.

IsraAID, in partnership with the AJC, dispatched an emergency response team to provide medical and psychological aid to those worst affected, and to distribute relief goods in Can-avid municipality, located just 15km from the city of Dolores, where the eye of the typhoon had made it's landfall a week and a half ago.

97% of those affected by the storm are located in Can-avid.

IsraAID - which has been helping the victims of natural and man-made disasters from Haiti to Kurdistan - has treated 404 injured people to date, in coordination with the UN and the local Ministry Department of Health.

The team has also delivered food and non-food items (NFI) to over 400 families, which included rice, noodels, water, mosquito repellent, hygiene kits and more.

Parallel to to distribution of goods and medical aid, IsraAID also conducted psycho social support activities to more than 150 children, and trained local professionals in dealing with trauma affected communities in Barangay Rawis and Camantang.
