Jewish Home on Tuesday announced that it was going on a major last-minute recruitment campaign. The campaign is being conducted digitally, marking the first time a political party in Israel has turned to the internet to recruit members.
Recruitment options will be available for users of computers, smartphones, tablets, and other devices. Recruitment will be conducted on Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks. Registration will be open to any Israeli citizen 17 and older who is willing to pay the NIS 39 ($15) annual membership fee. Anyone who joins will be eligible to vote in party primaries, to be held January 14. The membership drive will end on December 29, and on January 5 the final list of registered Jewish Home party members will be released.
The primary will enable members to choose both the party's candidate for Prime Minister, as well as the composition of its Knesset list.
Nir Orbach, director of the party, said that “we need a strong Jewish Home to fight the left. The increase in support we have seen has prompted many to call for a new membership campaign to allow supporters to influence party decisions. We especially invite younger voters who did not have an opportunity to vote in the last elections to join.”
