The IDF has posted a video marking a year since the November 7, 2013 Typhoon Haiyan that wreaked havoc in the Philippines; the video documents IDF Operation Islands of Hope that provided search and rescue as well as medical support to the stricken areas.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the typhoon packed winds of up to 195 miles per hour, and brought with it 23 foot tall storm surges.
A total of 7,000 people were killed or went missing in the disaster, and up to four million were displaced from their homes, with 475,000 still living in shelters a year later.
The IDF mission to provide aide in the immediate aftermath of the typhoon consisted of a delegation of 148 rescue and medical specialists.
The delegation set up a field hospital where 500 patients a day were able to receive help; the facility included x-ray and delivery rooms.
Joining the IDF was a delegation from the Hatzalah YOSH organization based in Judea and Samaria.
