Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon blamed the Palestinian Authority (PA) and its Chairman, Mahmoud Abbas, for Wednesday's attack in Jerusalem, which left one person dead and at least ten people injured.

"The inciting rhetoric of Mahmoud Abbas - who on the one hand disseminates hate speech and lies against the State of Israel, on the other hand praises Palestinian terrorists who attack Jews - is responsible for the bloodshed in Jerusalem," Ya'alon stated.

Yaalon slammed Abbas, saying he "has not changed and will not change and will continue to blacken the face of the State of Israel and to incite against it to the Palestinian population and preach hate around the world."

"Mahmoud Abbas is accepted around the world as a moderate, but does not promote a culture of peace [at home], and is not really interested coexistence with the Jewish state," he added.

Ya'alon emphasized, "We will strike down Palestinian terror in Jerusalem and lay our hands on the perpetrators and dispatchers of terrorism, which aim to harm our sovereignty and which aim to undermine the right to it."

Ya'alon is not the first top-ranking official to, specifically, blame Abbas for Wednesday's attack.

Earlier Wednesday, Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman drafted a letter to his counterparts across the globe, urging them to speak up against Palestinian incitement in light of multiple attacks - including Wednesday's.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat told Arutz Sheva that Abbas was to blame, as well, vowing to "move on" from the attack and to keep developing Jerusalem despite the wave of terror.

And Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu stated that "the terror attack earlier today in Jerusalem is the direct outcome of incitement by Abbas, and his Hamas partners. We are in an ongoing struggle for Jerusalem, and I have no doubt we will win.”
