A 12-year-old boy collapsed Monday on the steps of his school Chafetz Chaim on Ha'Ahim Suleiman Street in Rishon Letzion.

United Hatzalah medics and a Magen David Adom (MDA) team were immediately called to the scene. The boy, in critical condition, was taken to Assaf Harofeh Hospital while medics gave him CPR. Doctors soon pronounced him dead.

An initial investigation indicates that the boy suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed in front of his classmates. MDA notes that it is as yet unclear whether it was cardiac failure or something else that caused the collapse.

The boy's body showed no signs of trauma and the school staff informed paramedics that he was a healthy child.

Hatzalah said "When paramedics arrived on the scene, the child was unconscious. They were told that the boy lost consciousness after falling down the stairs. Volunteers attempted to resuscitate the child until the arrival of a mobile intensive care unit. He was evacuated to Assaf Harofeh Hospital where doctors attempted to save his life. "

MDA paramedic that arrived on the scene said, "We found the boy lying unconscious, without a pulse and not breathing at the bottom of a flight of stairs. School teachers were performing basic resuscitation. We gave him medical treatment and attempted more advanced techniques involving drugs and massages. While attempting resuscitation, we brought him to Assaf Harofeh Hospital" where he was pronounced dead.
