A policeman was moderately injured today in a hit-and-run accident in the central city of Lod.

The 50 year-old policeman was struck by a van on Katzenelson Street, and was taken to hospital suffering from head injuries after receiving first aid at the scene from Magen David Adom paramedics.

The driver of the van fled the scene and handed himself in to police only after several hours.

It was the second hit-and-run accident over Shabbat; on Friday night three youths were seriously injured when they were hit by a vehicle on Jaffa Street in Haifa. The driver fled the scene, but was apprehended by police a short while later.
