Culture Minister Limor Livnat met Wednesday with Yanping Gao, China’s Ambassador to Israel.

The two discussed the ties that have developed between Israel and China over the past 20 years, and discussed the various joint initiatives that are ongoing in the fields of culture and sport.

Chinese citizens are increasing interested in Israeli culture, Livnat noted. “Israeli culture is arousing great interest in China in recent years and many Israeli artists and performers have been invited to appear there,” she said.

“This last year set a new record for Israeli culture in China,” she reported.

Livnat added, “I believe that this cooperation will increase in the future, and will bring about stronger cultural ties between the countries.” Her ministry will promote cooperation “so that both peoples can enjoy other cultures,” she said.

She told Gao about a unique initiative her ministry is working on along with China’s Ministry of Sport that would increase sports-related cooperation between the countries, and asked for Gao’s help in moving the matter forward.
