Former New York congressman Anthony Weiner has officially announced that be will be running for mayor of New York City.

The former congressman, who resigned in 2011 after posting a lewd photo of himself on Twitter, announced his bid late Tuesday with a video announcement posted to YouTube.

“Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” Weiner, 48, said in video. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life. And I hope I get a second chance to work for you.”

Weiner initially claimed his account had been hacked but later admitted to sending inappropriate online messages to six women.

The former congressman is married to former top aide to Hillary Clinton, Huma Abedin, with whom he has a son, who was born several months after the scandal made news headlines.
