Giant Chabad dance

The annual conference of Chabad emissaries concluded with a giant dance in the traditional Jewish style of hand-on-shoulder togetherness.

Unlike secular dancing that promotes self-centered step or wild and even seductive actions, Jewish dancing at the Chabad conference, as at weddings other mitzvah celebrations, focuses on togetherness.

There are no “steps” to learn. People simply trust behind one another, often hand-in-hand, as an expression of the togetherness of the People of Israel.

The Chabad rabbis danced at the conclusion of the meal at the Crown Heights conference. Participants included the Russian Minister of Religions, the Chief Rabbi of Russia and British Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, who spoke of their acquaintance with the late Rebbe of Lubavitch.
