The Nefesh B’Nefesh flight of 360 olim from North America which arrived in Israel on Tuesday morning did not include only people, but also a Torah scroll.

The scroll will be a part of The Israel Experience program at Bar Ilan University and will be used to inspire young Jewish individuals to love the Torah, their people and their land, in the words of first Chief Rabbi, Rav Avraham Kook, the father of religious Zionism. It was brought to Israel by Rabbi Ilan Menajed, himself a new oleh.

“As a new oleh, this is what it’s about,” Rabbi Menajed told Arutz Sheva shortly after landing at Ben Gurion Airport. “This Torah is who we are, so to come to Israel with it is a big privilege.”

Coming to Israel, he said, is “returning to our land. This is the place where can we live and be who we’re supposed to be. A Jew can be a Jew here. There’s no question about it.”
