First-Ever Female Major General

Brigadier General Orna Barbivay will be promoted to the rank of Major General and appointed Head of the Personnel Directorate.

Minister of Defense Ehud Barak has approved a series of high-ranking appointments made by IDF Chief of General Staff, Lt. General Benny Gantz. 

Major General Yair Golan will be appointed GOC Northern Command, replacing Major General Gadi Eisenkot, who will continue his service in a position which will be agreed upon shortly.
 
Brigadier General Eyal Eisenberg will be promoted to the rank of Major General and will be appointed to head the Home Front Command He replaces Major Genera Golan.
 
Brigadier General Orna Barbivay will be promoted to the rank of Major General and appointed Head of the Personnel Directorate, replacing Major General Avi Zamir, who will end his service in the IDF. She had filled the number two slot in the Directorate until now, as Directorate Chief of Staff. 
 
In 2005 Barbivay made history when she was appointed to head the Adjutant Corps. She was the first woman in the IDF's history to head a corps other than the Women's Corps.
