An IDF soldier suffered moderate wounds Monday afternoon in the course of training in the Golan Heights, when a tank shell exploded near him, according to initial reports.

A helicopter was sent to the scene of the accident to evacuate the soldier to a hospital.

The commander of the regiment that was training at the time of the mishap, Armored Corps Regiment 401, ordered that the training be temporarily halted. The circumstances of the accident are being investigated.

Air Force Commander Major-General Ido Nechushtan ordered the F-16I jets to resume training Sunday, after several days in which they were grounded, following a crash that killed two airmen. A preliminary inquiry showed a very low probability that the crash was caused by a technical malfunction.
