Residents of Dallas, Texas celebrated Israel on Sunday, despite scorching 40.5 degree (105 Fahrenheit) heat. An estimated 5,000 people turned out for the party, which included exhibits, food, and live Israeli music.

The free event was organized by the Jerusalem Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas. Organizers distributed paper fans to the crowd.

Speakers included Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert, Israel Consul-General to the Southwest Meir Shlomo, and Rabbi Adam Raskin, president of the Rabbinic Association of Greater Dallas. Shlomo told the crowd that Israel appreciates their support, saying, “It's good to know that we are not alone.”

Also present was Pastor Terri Pearsons of Christians United for Israel.

Organizers said the event was such a success that they may hold similar parties on an annual basis.
