Israel Military Industries has developed a rocket that can hit targets up to 40 kilometers (25 miles) away with a precision of 10 meters (32 feet). The rocket has been dubbed the Enchanted Spear.

The Enchanted Spear was tested in February, and achieved impressive results over a range of dozens of kilometers.

The rocket can carry varying types of battle heads and is constructed to destroy ground targets. It is fired from the Pounder launcher, which was also recently developed by IMI.

The need for more precise artillery rockets became clear during the three-week Operation Cast Lead counterterror offensive in Gaza in late 2008. The IDF fired more than 7,000 artillery rockets during the operation.

The Artillery Corps plans to upgrade its shells in the near future, replacing them with more accurate weapons, according to IDF spokesmen.
