General Deepak Kapoor, the Chief of Staff of the Indian Army, landed in Israel Saturday for a four-day working visit. Kapoor was invited to Israel by IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi.

The general was welcomed in a festive ceremony at the Kirya military base in Tel Aviv.

During his visit, Kapoor is scheduled to meet with Ashkenazi, as well as other senior Israeli military commanders and Defense Ministry officials. He will also tour the IDF Southern Command.

IDF spokesmen said Kapoor was invited as part of an effort to strengthen the military cooperation between Israel and India, with an emphasis on Middle East issues.

Beyond his military tours, General Kapoor also plans to visit the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem, where he will lay a wreath in memory of those murdered in the Holocaust.
