Arab terrorists sharply escalated attacks through the country Wednesday, attempting to stab a Jew to death in eastern Jerusalem and hurling firebombs and rocks at several vehicles and soldiers in Judea and Samaria.

The attacks continued on Thursday, with a Kassam rocket causing damage to a chicken coop in Kibbutz Alumim in the Negev, and two Arabs were shot and wounded while throwing rocks at a Border Guard patrol near Ramallah.

Two terrorists armed with knives were arrested in Jerusalem on Wednesday after their intended Jewish victim managed to escape without injury. Soldiers arrested an Arab terrorist at the Hawara checkpoint near Yitzhar after discovering he was carrying a knife and a pipe bomb. Sappers detonated the explosive device safely.

Rocks attacks on Israeli vehicles continued Wednesday evening, with a car sustaining damage south of Shechem. No one was injured.

Near the Jewish residential area in Hevron, soldiers arrested an Arab man armed with a knife. The suspect was taken for questioning by security personnel.

Arab attackers hurled stones at a tourist near Lions Gate in the Old City Wednesday evening, injuring him in his ear. The 45-year-old was transported via ambulance to a Jerusalem hospital.

Stoning attacks have escalated sharply in the last three weeks as Arabs return to tactics used in the first Intifada in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The army, following government "good will" measures to ease travel restrictions and lower its presence, has taken little action to stop the attacks which have increased the past several days throughout Judea and Samaria.

In Atarot, north of the capital, two soldiers were lightly injured in a rock throwing attack, and rocks also were thrown on several roads throughout Judea and Samaria. No one was injured in Molotov cocktail attacks at vehicles near Azun, between Kfar Saba and Karnei Shomron, and between the communities of Maaleh Shomron and Karnei Shomron, on the same highway.

A gang of Arab teenagers attacked an ambulance south of Hevron Wednesday as well. Local residents say the same gang has took part in attacks almost every day for most of the past month. The attacks have occurred near the Zif junction in the southern Hevron Hills. The ambulance was on its way back from a mission when it was attacked, and its side window was broken. The driver was not injured.

A security officer in the area said that the army has done nothing in the past weeks to try to catch the attackers.
