Mediocre generals, and even great generals, do not necessarily make wise politicians. While many of the top officers in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have for years used the military as a launching pad into the world of political leadership, they often expose their lack of humility by trying to influence political policy while still in uniform. Even worse, they often reveal their gross ignorance, by recommending pathetic weakness in the face of terror.

According to a report today in Ynet news service, the Central Command of the IDF is proposing to give more weapons to Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces in order to “ease conditions” for the so-called Palestinians. Such proposals would be laughable if they weren’t so incredibly dangerous. For over two months, ordinary Israelis have been suffering from daily, and sometimes hourly terrorist attacks. These assaults have been carried out in all parts of the country, but recently with a particular focus on Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria. The victims of these brutal stabbings, shootings, car attacks, and firebombs have been Jews and every single attack has been intended to kill Jews, not Arabs, and therefore, the obvious questions must be asked:

What in the world is going through the minds of the military leadership that they are looking to “ease conditions” for the “Palestinians”? And to do so by giving them more weapons? Who is under attack here, the Muslims or the Jews? Minister Yisrael Katz was correct when he rightly pointed out yesterday that the Palestinian terror war is not an intifada, or rebellion. It is, in fact, the front lines of a Jihadist war against all non-Muslims and specifically the Jews, who are referred to as pigs and monkeys in the classic Islamic sources.

Israel should be using its very capable military forces to seize all weapons from the PA-controlled areas and to expel those who are giving the orders to kill us. Giving weapons to the PA, to those who have been financing and glorifying Islamic terrorism against Israelis for the past twenty-five years is absolutely irresponsible, and even insane.

It could be that the IDF generals who made those recommendations to the government are aiming to launch their eventual political careers with the latest reincarnation of the left-wing Labor party or the far-left Meretz. If so, they can rightly be accused of reckless political corruption, endangering the lives of their fellow Israeli citizens for their own political gain. If not, a good psychological ev‎aluation is badly needed. Suicidal tendencies have no place in the IDF and certainly not in its leadership.
