Israeli ambassador Ron Dermer sent 10 new hasbara pointers  to Politico:
Hasbara is crucial! Let's all reach out.
There are errors in Dermer’s pointers 1, 3 and 9; here are the corrections to prevent you from inadvertently hurting Israel rather than helping.

Accusation: “Terrorists are butchering Israeli civilians -- because Israel is trying to change the status quo on the Temple Mount!”
HASBARA POINTER: Ambassador Dermer’s suggestion to Politico was to respond “False! Only Muslims are allowed to pray on the Mount.”
Better: “Freedom of worship is no reason to kill people – quite the opposite.”
Explanation: When you say killing Jews is wrong because Jews are not allowed to pray at  the Temple Mount, this implies that killing Jews is the right thing to do if Jews do pray at the Temple Mount.

Accusation:  “Terrorists are butchering Israeli civilians -- because of a recent surge in settlement construction!”
HASBARA POINTER: Ambassador Dermer’s suggestion to Politico was to respond “Under Prime Minister Barak, 5,000 new units were built in the settlements; under Prime Minister Sharon  an average of 1,881; under Prime Minister Olmert 1,774. All three were hailed as peacemakers. What about under Netanyahu? Just 1,554. Some surge.”
Better: “Normal Jewish life activities – like building homes – are no justification to kill people – quite the opposite.”
Explanation: Advocates for Israel should never boast about the embarrassing fact that Jews are being forced to refrain from performing normal life activities like building.

Accusation: “Terrorists are butchering Israeli civilians -- because the Palestinians don't have a state!”
HASBARA POINTER: Ambassador Dermer’s suggestion to Politico was to imply that “the Palestinians” can have a state if they say we Jews can too.
Better: “The Arabs  do have a state, in fact more than 20 states. Most are failed states which generate refugees, poverty, discrimination against women, anti-Semitism, war, or all of the above.”
Explanation: Never cause anyone to think it is possible, desirable or just to establish yet another Arab state on the land of the one and only Jewish state in the world. The so-called two-state “solution” calls for establishing an Arab state in the heart of Eretz Yisrael, just a bike-ride away from Jerusalem, Tel-Aviv and Ben-Gurion airport. Never endorse this.

Finally, a pointer on diplomatic etiquette:

Don't  dignify Mahmoud Abbas with titles like “President” or “his Excellency”. First,  Abbas is an embarrassment  who is currently serving the 10th year of a 4 year term.  Second, “President” implies that the Yehuda/Shomron district should be allowed to become yet another failed Arab state, which is the last thing that Israel and the civilized world should be striving for. Third, a leader who employs a Minister for Terrorist Affairs should not be exalted by civilized people as being an “excellency”. Does Israel have a special minister charged with protecting the interests of organized crime families? Of course not.
