This Week Today

Current Events from Israel

There's still an election going on for the World Zionist Congress that you really need to vote in (https://azm.org/elections) and its still the glorious month of Black History Month (not so much for Jussie Smollett - they so could have waited until March to charge him!), but there's other things going on as well. Let's start off strong!

The UN - United N....azis?

This week the UN Human Rights Council took a page out of Mein Kampf and published a list of Jewish-owned companies that should be boycotted for doing business in Judea and Samaria - only Jewish companies of course. Sound familiar? It would have been more interesting if they had also boycotted all the arab construction companies doing alot of the actual "settlement" building. Alas.

Are you so angry about this boycott that you think that President Trump should have the US quit the Council? Too late, he already quit 2 years ago! Only the most enlightened countries represented at the UN voted on this impressive initiative: Cuba, Venezuela, South Africa and an assortment of liberty-loving, ultra-tolerant muslim countries. Despite totally fitting the criteria and repeated requests, the Jerusalem Heritage House was scandalously omitted from the list. I haven't been this outraged since I was left off of one the Forward's lists of kindof Jewish losers. Hopefully this is only temporary, we still have hope to be recognized for our "settler" work in the future.

Judges

A 3-judge panel has officially been selected to preside over the criminal cases of Prime Minister Netanyahu. Unfortunately for everyone, Judge Judy is not one of the judges. That would have been a real hoot. The trial will take place in Jerusalem and sometime after the upcoming elections on March 2nd. Start making popcorn now!

Uptick in Terrorism

There was definitely a continued uptick in arab terrorist activity following the release of President Trump's "Deal of the Century". A group of Israeli soldiers was attacked in a ramming attack in Jerusalem, there was a drive-by shooting in the Binyamin area, an Israeli policeman was shot and wounded in the arm at an entrance to the Temple Mount and of course more rockets and balloon bombs from Gaza. Defense Minister Naftali Bennett has threatened to take "a different kind of action" against terrorists in Gaza if the attacks don't cease immediately. What does that mean? No clue. So far, the attacks continue, so.....

Sha-what! Sha-bak

Speaking of Naftali Bennett, this week the Shabak - the Israeli secret police/FBI - arrested a few Jewish youths on suspicion of attacking arabs/vandalism. One of the suspects immediatley upon being released by a judge was then re-arrested on orders signed by none other than Naftali Bennett. The outcry was great, especially from the Religious Zionist community, and Bennett downgraded the order to just barring the suspect from Judea and Samaria. Sounds like something the UN Human Rights Council would do! Anyway, pretty much all the suspects have been released due to lack of evidence. I guess torture doesn't work like it used to. Now reports say that the Shabak is very mad at Bennett for intervening. Hey Shabak, maybe wait until after the elections to pull this kind of shtick!

Election Update

The election date is coming up real fast and not much going on. Folks are clearly tired of all this. There were reports of meetings between Likud and Otzma on trying to figure out how not to lose right-wing votes. What was decided is quite unclear with contradictory messages coming from the two sides. But they wouldn't be meeting if ideas weren't being exchanged. Might see something happen there.
