Amazing! I couldn’t think of a more perfect metaphor. An extravaganza of Torah learning in a New York baseball stadium! What genius! “Look, mom, we Jews have made it!” The Big Leagues! The Diaspora headlines roar, “TORAH TAKES THE MOUND AT CITI FIELD, HOME OF THE NY METS.” Watch out America! Torah may replace baseball as the national pastime and the most popular game in town! Yes, it’s true! Torah in a baseball stadium! What Jewish Pride! What incredible media magic! Torah has become an EVENT! Baseball caps off to the OU for organizing the night game of 2500 Torah fans who flocked to the floodlit stadium to hear an all-star line-up of 29 internationally renowned Torah stars. Needless to say, I wasn’t invited to speak. Of course, you know why. I would have said, “Ladies and gentlemen. What the hell are you doing learning Torah in a baseball stadium in New York when you could be LIVING TORAH in the Land of Israel?”

But what do I know?
