Fearless
Fearless

Do not fear for I am with you; be not discouraged for I am your God: I encouraged you, I also helped you, I also supported you with My righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

When darkness falls, and the terrors of the night creep in, carry God’s light with certainty, assured of His protection.

When loneliness gnaws at your heart, when the passing days of isolation create a mounting tension which twists your insides into a complicated tangle of anxiety and fear, combat the forces which feed on these feelings by fervently rejecting the downward spiral into the abyss. Banish the darkness; sing joyous songs to scatter the gloom, crawl into the shelter of the Most High and rest in the shadow of Almighty (Psalm 91:1), and ask for the confidence to rest securely in His presence.

All you need to dispel the shadows is a little bit of light. And that light, no matter how small, will cause the darkness to flee. And there is nothing small about the light of God. “God is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? God is the strength of my life, whom shall I dread?” (27:1). Invite His light and His love back into your life, open the door upon which He has been knocking for an eternity, and the gloom will dissipate.

As soon as you reject the fear, as soon as you tell the anxiety to be gone, nightfall will cease, and the sun will rise once more. God will turn your lament into dancing, He will loosen the sackcloth and gird you with joy (30:12). No longer will you fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, for He will command His angels on your behalf to guard you in all your ways (91:5,11).

The life lived fully with God is one without fear. We must recognize that our souls rest entirely in His hands, for indeed, He alone is our life source; He is the breath in our lungs, the water which quenches our thirst, the bread that sustains us.

Hashem alone protects our souls, guards our hearts, and keeps us safe from harm. There is no fence, no wall, no weapon that can match the fortress of God, the shelter for those who love Him.

At long last, we can rest confidently, knowing that in God, we are free from the chains of despair.

At long last, we can be fearless.

A song of ascents. I lift my eyes to the mountains-from where will my help come?

My help will come from the Lord, Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot falter; your guardian does not slumber.

Indeed, the Guardian of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps.

The Lord is your guardian; the Lord is your protective shade at your right hand.

The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.

The Lord will guard you from all evil; He will guard your soul.

The Lord will guard your going and your coming from now and for all time.

Psalm 121
