Bernard-Henri Levy – we need to talk
Bernard-Henri Levy – we need to talk

Anyone taking on Bernard-Henri Levy, a man of near impeccable substance and stature, is asking for trouble. So I’m asking for trouble.

But I must say my say, even if politely and respectfully against Levy who, operating from France, ranks as a world-leading writer, philosopher, thinker and intellectual. On top of that he’s a powerful presence against anti-Semitism. Better yet, he’s a strong voice for Israel – though with an asterisk, which we’ll get to in a moment.

I like his dashing Continental persona so much that, others have pointed out, I use him as a literary facsimile in my novel “News Anchor Sweetheart.”

In France, throughout Europe in fact, his initials, BHL are enough for people to stand and take notice – which is what I did.

I read the commentary he wrote for Tablet…and it’s got me puzzled…if only because such thinking typifies a thought process that favors Israel, yes, favors the Jewish State, but with qualifications. Namely, the “Palestinians.” As if any mention of Israel must also include the “Palestinians” in the same sentence.

Otherwise, it seems, Israel only stands on one leg.

But I’m getting ahead of myself.

Levy starts by negating President Trump. It’s plain he does not like Trump. Levy judges Trump as a man who lacks gravitas.

That, I suppose, is par for any European or for any Liberal-minded American; people who think like Europeans.

Europe is the place where they roll over and submit to radical Islam, America, Trump’s America, is where we demand respect…or else.

Ask the UN what that means. For those bums, Trump has already slashed our unrequited generosity.

Ditto the “Palestinians,” whose funds are being trimmed and even dumped.

Levy asserts that Trump’s Jerusalem Doctrine was an empty gesture.

Trump codified Jerusalem for the sake of Zion only for expedience, says Levy. He’s a “wise guy” lightweight, goes the accusation. His heart is not in the right place. Trump does not love Jerusalem wisely or properly or sincerely enough to go ahead and do what he did.

In short, Trump is not Herzl.

By my reckoning – Trump is Babe Ruth. He hit the ball out of the park. What do I care who hit the homerun so long as it’s for my team?

Trump is Babe Ruth. He hit the ball out of the park. What do I care who hit the homerun so long as it’s for my team?
To those tempted to underestimate Trump, hello, he’s got Obama, Hillary and 80 million Democrats still wondering what the hell happened!

Trump’s genius is that he can tell the difference between the real and the fake…between real news and fake news…real people and fake people, like the fake “Palestinians.” That’s a rare gift and we are lucky to have it in this president, and a gift that seems lacking in our deepest thinkers…Jewish and otherwise.

For my money, on Jerusalem alone Trump gets the Wisdom of Solomon Award; knowing the real mother from the imposter.

Which brings us to the clincher. Levy writes, “a comprehensive and just peace through negotiation… is the essential goal.”

Wait. He’s not done. This is what comes next – Levy is all for “the legitimacy of Israel, ALONGSIDE A FUTURE PALESTINIAN STATE.” (Uppercase tantrum, mine.)

So without a “Palestinian” state Israel is not legitimate?

I re-read that sentence of Levy’s 100 times just to be sure and each time it comes across so terribly, so awfully, so tragically wrong and misbegotten.

Who, along with Levy and Dershowitz and other professors who love Israel but with a “two-state-solution” asterisk – who thinks likes this?

Who thinks the “Palestinians” have anything coming? Not Trump,

He saw them a mile off. He knew them while our own brothers and sisters were sucking their thumbs and dithering in their tents.

Go Trump. Yes, and Bernard-Henri Levy, too – but with an asterisk.
