Revealed: Trump guzzles Diet Coke
Revealed: Trump guzzles Diet Coke

First, as the week began, came news of an attempted Islamic terrorist attack at New York’s Port Authority Bus Terminal…and next came everything we needed to know about the Mainstream News Media, which has once again, or finally become a punch line and a laughingstock.

We need to exclude Fox News from that leftist cabal. Only Fox News still gives it mostly straight up, mostly fair and balanced.

That same evening, visiting family when the Network News just came on, my son said, “Dad, which do you want first, the anti-cop story, the anti-Israel story, or the anti-Trump story?” That was ABC, but could have been NBC, CBS or PBS, and surely MSNBC and positively CNN.

Though for slanted on the spot reporting against Israel it’s tough to beat Richard Engel from NBC. The others do try hard enough.

Especially these days right after Trump’s Jerusalem Proclamation, there they are on the prowl in Israel to cover whatever riots they manage ignite.

If not for Fox News we’d be totally in the dark, about everything, and it was from there that I first heard about CNN’s ALARMING report:

Revealed – President Trump has been caught colluding with Russia? Not quite.

It’s Trump’s fault that the Democrat will defeat the flawed Republican (as he did moments ago) in Alabama’s special election for the Senate?

No, not exactly. Rather, it’s been reported, first from The New York Times, that Trump likes Diet Coke.

Wait – it gets worse. He guzzles down a dozen a day.

So given such a scoop, CNN could not resist breaking it at around the same time that all that was going on at Port Authority.

New Yorkers were running for their lives…but first things first; Trump is a glutton for Diet Coke.

Time to impeach? If you ask them? – Absolutely.

They’ll take anything, anything to wobble this president who is doing a masterful job. The Russia…Russia…Russia probe is not going anywhere, so what’s next?

Megyn Kelly is next.

That same morning, our girl Megyn had as her NBC guests three (or was it four?) women who were accusing Trump of inappropriate behavior.

Don’t get me started on this. Of course I support women who stand up for themselves. It’s about time and hurray for them.

In this case, I don’t know. I just don’t know. Perhaps just another (rehearsed) attempt to GET TRUMP?

I mean, nearly everybody – certainly all the Democrats and all the newspapers and all the networks – are in on this with both feet.

They all want to be first with the news that Trump is finished…and apparently, no one wants it more than Megyn Kelly.

Now I know some readers think I love the girl. I hear it often enough and am sure to hear it again…that I was too good to her.

They’re the ones who only heard about my novel about her and never bothered to read the book, which is actually as much about her husband and what it’s like for a nobody to be married to a somebody. I hear she has mixed feelings about what I wrote, does not like the liberties I took, which is just fine with me.

(After all, it is a work of fiction based on what I imagined as a novelist.)

I noted there and in subsequent columns that Megyn was making a mistake by moving from Fox News, where she was queen, onto Network (NBC), where she’d likely be starting from scratch. Sure enough her ratings on NBC tanked. Happy Talk, the going fare for such morning shows, was not her style.

Then came the harassment stories, and she jumped in. Hard news – that was her style. Going after Trump – that, too.

We saw that at the opening of the First GOP Presidential Debate, August 6, 2015, when, before 25 million viewers, she attacked Trump with charges of misbehavior towards women. It was merciless and it came blindsided. From that day forward she lost Republican support and she definitely lost Trump supporters.

Is she piling on once again – and is going after Trump, now from NBC, merely a clever career move to up the ratings?

In fact, her numbers have improved substantially. She’s back in her groove. But that is nothing to celebrate given the issue, sexual harassment.

Plus the fact that so many of us have grown suspicious of anything we read in the papers or watch on TV.

President Trump deserves better. We all do. We should have a news media that we can trust and in America it does not exist.
