We Want to Encourage People to Take a Stand for Israel

A message from Sweden: The fight against anti-Israeli lobbyists who spread irrational and false images of Israel begins by taking a stand and responding back.

On Sunday 24 August, when Israel was still under siege by Hamas rockets from Gaza, a demonstration was held in support of Israel and against terrorism in central Stockholm arranged by the organization Perspective På Israel (PPI). The speakers were Swedes and Arab Israelis. About  200 people participated in this demonstration and Israel's national anthem was played in  the closing.

That Arab Israelis support Israel and come to one of Europe's most anti-Israeli countries to speak in support of Israel did not fit in the Swedish media's anti-Israeli discourse. The only newspaper that reported that one of Sweden's most famous squares was filled with people who support Israel, in the midst of a raging war, was the online newspaper Samtiden.

One of the Swedish Left Party's MPs had seriously said that Israel is forcing Palestinians to convert to Judaism.
After 48-days of war in the Middle East and all the hatred of Israel that friends of Israel are forced to hear in the Swedish media, it was a relief for supporters of Israel to participate in a demonstration where some honest words were said.

Israel is the Middle East's only true democracy. When we went through all the lies that the Left in Sweden spread about Israel, friends of Israel could not hold back the laughter. One of the Swedish Left Party's MPs had seriously said that Israel is forcing Palestinians to convert to Judaism. In reality, beyond the Swedish left-wing anti-Semitic fantasies, Israel has more mosques than Sweden and the imams are paid by the state.

The fact that Israel is one of the most secure places in the Middle East for minorities was highlighted while it was contrasted against what is happening to Christians and other minorities in other Middle Eastern countries. The reality about Middle East that most people recognize in their hearts was made public for all to see. Israel is an island of liberty in the Middle East, in a sea of dictators and terrorists.

The fight against anti-Israeli lobbyists who spread irrational and false images of Israel begins by taking a stand and responding back. This can only be done through more international cooperation between people who support Israel. In a globalized world an effective support for Israel requires more globalized cooperation between Israelis and friends of Israel.

We wish that more forums would be formed for effective and transparent globalized cooperation between Israelis and supporters of Israel. Support for Israel is a global issue from both an existential and a geopolitical perspective.

Judaism is a world religion, and Israel is the world's only Jewish state and a part of the Jewish identity. Israel is a proof that democracy, liberty and human rights are possible in the Middle East, a region otherwise dominated by dictatorships and undemocratic values.

Perspective on Israel (PPI) is a network which was founded in August 2013 with the aim to counteract the negative, distorted image of Israel that is spread in the Swedish media and in political parties. We believe that peace is based on knowledge, understanding and democracy. Therefore, PPI aims to spread more knowledge about Israel and bring up the debate about the forces that spread lies about Israel and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
