Egypt to Appoint Israel Ambassador, after 3 Years

Israeli Ambassador to Egypt Yaakov Amitai has quietly left Cairo, and flown back to Tel Aviv, not to return until after Tahrir anniversary.

Israel's new ambassador to Egypt is expected to depart for Cairo on Monday, the Foreign Ministry announced Saturday evening.

Officials in Cairo say Israel can send in its new envoy whenever it chooses. That doesn't ensure his safety.

"I asked for his help. He used the considerable means and influence of the US to help us. We owe him a special measure of gratitude."
