Due to the need for more operational soldiers, the IDF is advancing the draft process for many Hesder Yeshiva students. Their training is expected to be shortened from the usual standard, and be a total of 4 months, after which they won't enter operational activity immediately.
The IDF spokesman commented to Arutz Sheva - Israel National News: “The IDF is drafting soldiers according to its operational needs in different units. As part of this, the effects of the ongoing war effort and attempts to build manpower are being re-examined.
“In accordance with the characteristics of different units and populations, decisions are being made as to who to advance through the draft process. The December draft group will join those whose draft has been advanced already in coordination with the Hesder Yeshiva union. The process will continue on March 24th, the draft date for some of the next draft group that is being advanced.”
"The operational needs of the IDF have been felt for several weeks now, and the decision to draft hundreds of Yeshiva students was made accordingly, both those who are and are not religious. Hundreds of students have already been notified that they will be drafted in the near future.”
