Defense Minister Yoav Gallant held a situation briefing this evening (Tuesday), focusing on the return of Gaza periphery residents to villages that are located between 4 and 7 km from Gaza, where security and civilian conditions enable this, starting from the beginning of January.
Minister Gallant stated that "thanks to the efforts of all branches of the security forces, the residents returning to their homes will see something new, that they did not know before. At first, there will be a new overall security concept, which will provide a different response to needs."
According to Gallant, "People will return to their homes when they sense security and resilience - without the connection of these two elements, nothing will happen. In the first phase, we will return several villages in the northern part of the region surrounding Gaza that is beyond 4 kilometers."
Regarding the process of returning home, the Minister of Defense said: "As soon as the IDF takes action in the north of Gaza City, it will change the current situation and enable this process. Soon we will also work in other places and return the people to their homes. All this with the full support and security of the Israel Defense Forces and the government of Israel."
"We are committed to remain in Gaza and complete our mission, in order to reinstate the communities. We will not stop until we demolish this whole problem called Hamas. The communities will be able to return home, it will give security to the citizens of Israel and will also project on other areas," he concluded.
The Director General of the Ministry of Defense, Eyal Zamir, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Amir Baram, Commander of the Home Front Command, Major General Rafi Milo, head of the Planning Division in the IDF, Major General Eyal Harel, Major General (res.) Roni Numa, head of the Tkuma administration, Moshe Edri, and other officials in the security forces, participated in the assessment.
