The Knesset plenum on Wednesday approved a bill to fight terror, which bans systematic and extended consumption of certain publications of the Hamas and ISIS terror organizations.
The bill, which was approved in its second and third readings, includes in the ban praise, sympathy, or encouragement of acts of terror, or footage of acts of terror together with the consumption of associated publications.
Under the bill, the punishment for violators of the law will be one year in prison. However, random consumption of the materials, innocently or for an approved purpose, will not be considered banned consumption.
Earlier this week, the Constitution, Law, and Justice Committee approved the bill, but added to the criteria for violating the law a circumstance which shows identification with the terror organization.
Committee Chairman MK Simcha Rothman said, "I thank my friends in the coalition and opposition. Even though I know that this bill was not easy for either side, at the end of the day we came together around a version in the spirit of the unity of these days - of the war on terror which threatens us all."
