Foreign Minister Eli Cohen is considering appointing businessman and pro-Israel activist Joe Zevuloni as a special envoy in the fight against the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement in the US, the Walla! news website reported.
Zevuloni, an Israeli businessman who lives in Miami, is known to many as an activist on behalf of Israel and the Jewish community. After the disaster of the building collapse in Surfside near Miami, Zevuloni led activities on behalf of the families of the victims and the residents who lost their homes in the disaster.
He recently received an award for his activities following the Surfside disaster. First Lady Jill Biden was present at the award ceremony, as was Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
A well-known presence on social with many followers from the US and Israel, Zevuloni mobilized support for the Israeli fight against the Ben & Jerry's ice cream company's attempt to boycott Judea and Samaria and against Airbnb, when it planned to boycott apartments in Judea and Samaria.
Zevuloni is also known to many as a political activist, and has supported Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former US President Donald Trump.
According to the Walla! report, the position in question is a special envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the fields of public diplomacy, the fight against antisemitism and the fight against BDS, and there are other candidates for similar positions, including former MK Michal Cotler-Wunsh, Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem Fleur Hassan-Nahoum and Rabbi Leo Dee.
Associates of Joe Zevuloni told Walla!, "Joe Zevuloni is a leader of the Jewish and Israeli community in Florida and is accepted among local politicians, including in the Democratic Party. Zevuloni works and has voluntarily worked his entire life for Israel, and among other things he is at the forefront of public diplomacy in the fight against BDS organizations and manifestations of antisemitism. If this information is true, the State of Israel will only benefit."
