MK Almog Cohen (Otzma Yehudit) is expected to be appointed as Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, following the recent warming of his relations with the chairman of his party, Itamar Ben Gvir.
According to a report in Israel Hayom, MK Yitzhak Kroizer is promoting legislation that would allow Cohen to be appointed deputy minister, in order to overcome the existing law that allows the appointment of only two deputies in a ministry.
"The powers of the Prime Minister are many, and he is in charge of an office that deals with many and varied fields. In order to deal with these challenges, it is proposed that the Prime Minister appoint three deputy ministers instead of two, who will help him manage the work of the office," the bill reads.
If Cohen does become a minister, officials in the coalition estimate that Cohen will not be able to submit private bills.
The coalition agreements stipulate that Cohen was to be appointed to the position of deputy minister, but this was prevented due to the law limiting the number of deputy ministers in the Prime Minister's Office.
