Early on Monday morning, approximately 100 Jerusalem District police officers and Border Police officers raided the homes of 16 past and present security prisoners.
The operation, conducted together with the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) and representatives from the Defense Ministry, focused on security prisoners living in Jerusalem's Arab neighborhoods who were involved in acts of terror and who received money for their actions from the Palestinian Authority.
The activity was conducted following an order by the Defense Minister to confiscate money used to fund acts of terror or provided in compensation for acts of terror. The police officers and security forces found and confiscated from the suspects' homes hundreds of thousands of shekels' worth in both cash and property, froze bank accounts, and found seven vehicles which were intended for seizure.
During the operation, the officers also located and confiscated about 270,000 NIS of cash and property, including jewelry and gold. In addition, six vehicles and a motorcycle were confiscated in the operation, and 16 bank accounts were frozen. Later, hundreds of thousands more shekels will be seized from these accounts.
Among the security prisoners and terrorists whose homes were raided in the operation are terrorists who carried out various types of attacks and hostile destructive activities against security forces and civilians throughout the years. Some of these terrorists have served or are currently serving lengthy prison sentences as security prisoners.
