Chasidic Supreme Court Justice Ruchie Freier and Ezras Nashim members were honored last week by Assemblyman Brian Cunningham (D-43) with the "2023 Women of Distinction Award."
The text of the award read:
Honoring Judge Rachel Freier on her legacy of outstanding and invaluable service, whereas, on this occasion, I have the opportunity to recognize the Honorable Rachel E. Freier, a trailblazer and a valued member of society Justice Rachel E. Freier has dedicated her life for the betterment of others, whether it's as a justice or in her altruistic endeavors; and
Whereas,
Judge Freier is the founder of Chasdei Devorah, Inc., an organization founded in memory of Bderech, a friend who passed away at a young age, that is committed to advocating for education and opportunities for young people in the Chassidic community; and she is a co-founder of Ezras Nashim - a non-profit all female EMT Volunteer Corps who dedicate their time to provide vital life-saving care for women in the Chassidic community; and

since 2016, Judge Rachel "Ruchie" Freier, has served residents as a justice in Kings County. In November 2016, Judge Freier was appointed as a Civil Court Judge. Following her civil appointment, she was appointed as Second Division Acting Supreme Court Justice, in Kings Country Prior to her role as a justice, Judge Freier maintained law offices in Brooklyn and Monroe, NY and was a licensed attorney in New York, New Jersey and Washington, DC. Before practicing law, Judge Freier studied political science and directed the Women's Pre-Law Society at Touro College, eventually graduating with honors. After graduation, she went on to attend Brooklyn Law School part-time while raising a family of six; and

known for her commitment to her community, Judge Freier was most recently honored for her accomplishment as the first Hasidic woman to be elected to public office, and she continues to blaze a pathway to success. As she excelled in the courts, a group of Chassidic female EMTs asked for her assistance, which blossomed into a global grassroots movement for an all female ambulance service, Ezras Nashim. Following an introduction, Justice Freier became a paramedic. Under her leadership, Ezras Nashim won the NYS Department of Health's EMS Agency of the Year Award in 2017 and NYC Regional Council Agency of the Year award in 2018; and

dedicated and determined to give back, Justice Freier continues to volunteer her time, and provide thoughtful and innovative leadership advice. Her tireless advocacy remains at the core of her character; now, therefore, be it
Proclaimed, that I, State Assemblyman Brian Cunningham, recognize that Justice Rachel "Ruchie" Freier is worthy of my highest respect and esteem; be it further
