An 80-year-old Israeli collapsed near the grave of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov in the city of Uman in Ukraine. Despite prolonged resuscitation attempts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Businessmen from the Breslov Hasidic congregation and the Jewish communities in Ukraine are now working to arrange to fly his body to Israel.
Repatriating the deceased individual is more difficult than usual due to the need to cross land borders before flying, since many of Ukraine's airports are inactive due to the war.
Mathes Shapira, head of the United Hatzalah branch in Uman, said: "With the help of other medics who came to Uman for the occasion of Shavuot, we performed prolonged CPR on him in an attempt to save his life. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the end of the resuscitation efforts."
