The Jerusalem District Attorney's Office submitted to the city's district court an indictment against Sari Halak, a 19-year-old resident of Jerusalem, who planned to carry out terrorist attacks in Jerusalem in recent months.
According to the indictment, submitted through attorney Hadas Amir, during the past few months the defendant planned to carry out attacks in Jerusalem. In one case, the defendant sought to take grenades from a friend in order to carry out an attack against security forces, but this attack did not materialize. In another case, the defendant and another friend discussed their desire to carry out a shooting attack against Jews and began to plan for the attack.
The pair planned to purchase a gun for the attack, and one of them began carrying out surveillance at a public square in the Beit Hanina neighborhood, where they planned to commit the attack. The plan involved the two throwing Molotov Cocktails at a vehicle with Jewish-looking passengers and then shoot at them once they stopped and exited the vehicle.
Several months later, the accused participated in a mass riot on the Temple Mount, during which the rioters threw stones and shot fireworks at security forces. As part of the riot, the accused threw a stone at security forces.
The defendant faces charges of committing crimes in connection to an act of terrorism, attempting to attack police officers under aggravated circumstances, and rioting.
The prosecution asked the court to order the arrest of the defendant until the end of the legal proceedings against him.
