Police on Friday arrested the female driver who was involved in the Independence Day accident on Highway 40 in the Negev, in which toddler Ma’ayan David Domnovitch was killed.
Police suspect that the driver swerved and hit the vehicle in which the Domnovitch family, from the community of Nokdim, was traveling. The father of the family and one of the children were seriously injured in the accident.
The police said that the driver is suspected of reckless homicide, as well as driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. "A blood test taken from the driver immediately after the accident found an amount of alcohol three times the legal limit, as well as a marijuana-type drug," it was reported.
The driver, who was injured in the accident, is expected to arrive for a hearing on the extension of her detention at the Be'er Sheva Magistrate's Court.
Hundreds of people on Friday came to pay their last respects at the cemetery in Kfar Etzion as Ma’ayan was laid to rest. His parents remain hospitalized and were unable to attend the funeral.
