Former Ambassador David Friedman spoke to Arutz Sheva - Israel National News today (Thursday) and said the US-Israel relationship is "too important" for the Biden administration to jeopardize it.
Speaking after GOP hopeful Ron DeSantis made a heartfelt speech toting his pro-Israel advocacy as governor of Florida, Friedman said he was happy American Jews were "so passionate" about how they believe Israel should govern itself but warned that government interference could get in the way of the relationship between the two allies.
"American Jews have strong feelings on how Israel should govern itself," said Friedman, responding to public pressure in the US against the Netanyahu government's proposed legal reform. "The US government, I think, even in challenging times, needs to understand that Israel knows what's best for Israel," he continued.
"We tried to respect that when we were in office and I think that's a good formula because Israel is capable of solving its problems. They don't need the help of outsiders," added Friedman.
Regarding President Biden's perceived snub of Netanyahu after the former said the Israeli leader's visit to Washington D.C., was "not on the schedule," Friedman pointed out that America "needs" Israel and that even the Democrats cannot allow themselves to put that relationship at risk.
"The relationship with Israel is so important that even with the Democrats, [in charge] the relationship will be repaired and things will work themselves out," stated Friedman.
