An apartment in an eight-story building in the southern Israeli city of Sderot was struck by shrapnel during a rocket attack Friday morning.

The shrapnel apparently was the result of an Iron Dome missile defense interceptor launched in response to a rocket attack.

The apartment was damaged, but there have thus far been no injuries reported.

A mother and daughter who were in the apartment at the time ran to the unit's fortified room for shelter, and were unharmed.

Several people were treated for shock.

Police, emergency first responders, and municipal officials were dispatched to the building.

More than 40 rockets were fired towards Israel from the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip overnight. No injuries were reported.

In response to rocket attacks from Gaza and from southern Lebanon during the Passover holiday, IDF forces struck Hamas terror tunnels in Gaza and Hamas positions in Lebanon.
