The US government condemned the rocket attacks from Lebanon and Gaza against Israel during the first day of Passover and expressed its support for Israel's right to defend itself.
“We condemn the launch of rockets from Lebanon and Gaza,” US State Department spokesman Vedant Patel told reporters Thursday.
“Our commitment to Israel’s security is ironclad. We recognize Israel’s legitimate right to defend itself against all forms of aggression,” he added.
At least 34 rockets were fired at northern Israel from Gaza today (Thursday), injuring two Israelis. Seven rockets were fired at southern Israel from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip last night, while Jewish Israelis gathered for the Passover Seder.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also condemned the rocket attacks, but rather than express support for Israel's right to defend itself from such attacks, he called on all sides "to exercise maximum restraint.”
