Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has threatened to resign if no compromise is reached on the government's planned judicial reforms in response to the growing number of refusals to serve in the IDF, Channel 12 News and Ynet reported.

According to the report, Gallant raised his concerns in multiple conversations with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who later told other ministers in discussions that he strongly believes that if there is no compromise, Gallant will probably resign.

Political figures believe that Gallant is considering resigning after the compromise proposed by Knesset Constitution Committee chairman Simcha Rothman was rejected by the opposition parties and the leaders of the protest movement against the judicial reforms.

The protests within the IDF against the judicial reforms reached a crescendo this week when hundreds of reservists refused to report for duty, fulfilling threats that have been made for months that soldiers would refuse to serve if the reforms are passed.

Meanwhile, Justice Minister Yariv Levin, one of the chief architects of the judicial reforms, is also reportedly threatening to resign if significant compromises are made on the reforms.
