The demonstrations against the judicial reform are going up a notch and spreading to haredi concentrations as well: For the first time, protesters against the reform will demonstrate outside the home of a haredi MK, with the first one being MK Moshe Gafni (United Torah Judaism).
The demonstration is scheduled to take place on Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. outside Gafni’s home in Bnei Brak.
The demonstrators explained that the demonstration "will kick off a large-scale move against the involvement of the haredi Knesset members in promoting the laws, led by Gafni, who recently called to 'take down the Supreme Court' and heavily promotes the legislation of the Override Clause."
They added that they "expect the Israel Police to prepare accordingly" and allow them to exercise "their freedom of expression and the right to protest outside the home of Knesset member Gafni, while making sure to maintain the safety of the demonstrators."
According to the organizers of the demonstration, "MK Gafni is one of the architects of the coup d'état, no less than Levin and Rothman. He incites against the Supreme Court and its judges, and is racing towards the Override Clause in order to trample the court and turn Israel into dark state of halakha and perpetuate the exploitation of the public coffers and inequality in the sharing of the burden."
"If Gafni thinks we will remain silent in the face of the attempt to turn us into Iran - he is wrong. We will reach him in Bnei Brak and make it clear to him that rabbinic courts will not run the country, that the chametz laws and his delusional initiatives for coercion and discrimination will not pass on our watch."
