The Israeli government voted Sunday to transfer the provision of a security detail to the prime minister’s wife and children to the Shin Bet internal security agency.
The vote comes after the prime minister’s wife, Sara Netanyahu, was trapped inside a Tel Aviv hair salon for over three hours last week after a mob of over a thousand anti-judicial reform protestors gathered outside the salon.
"The country is burning and Sara is getting a haircut," protesters shouted.
Hundreds of police officers, many of whom were on horseback, were needed to ensure her safe passage off of the premises.
The prime minister’s family will now be under the protection of the Shin Bet, rather than Magen, the security department of the Prime Minister’s Office.
Following Sunday’s vote, the Shin Bet refused to comment on the change, saying in a statement: “We do not discuss issues regarding security arrangements discussed in closed hearings.”
