Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion discussed the recent wave of terror attacks in his city and suggested harshly sanctioning the terrorists to deter others.
In an interview with Radio Kol Chai, Lion said: "I was at the funeral of Asher Paley yesterday, two brothers were killed in the unexplainable attack together with Shlomo Lederman. It's very difficult.
We need to protect the bus stops and lower the chance of an attack, but we need to deal with the lone wolves, collective punishment only makes matters worse; we have to find a solution."
Lion explained the difficulty of stopping lone-wolf terror: "The security forces managed to stop organized terrorism, but a lone-wolf is more difficult. A lone wolf is someone who decided to lose his life.
The incitement on social media is crazy; an incendiary post has to be taken down immediately. And that doesn't happen. Some people don't control their feelings when they see these posts and go out to attack."
The Mayor spoke about National Security Minister Ben-Gvir's plan to launch an operation in eastern Jerusalem: "I don't know what Ben-Gvir means by 'Operation Defensive Shield 2', after the terror attack in Shuafat we applied collective punishment, and that just made the situation worse. We need to hit the terrorist's family. So every terrorist that goes to attack knows that he's leaving behind a wrecked family; today, that doesn't happen."
