Panicked residents of a central Israeli city reported hearing what they believed to be gunshots Monday morning, swamping police phone lines with calls for help.

The shots were heard around the center of Ramat HaSharon, in the vicinity of Sokolov Street.

Footage of the incident that went viral revealed the "shots" were in fact fireworks, fired in the street, apparently as part of a prank.

City officials in Ramat HaSharon assured residents that no shooting had taken place, and that "The explosions heard this morning in the Sokolov area were the sounds of fireworks being fired by a civilian. Police are on the scene and there is no danger."

Police have since arrested two eighteen-year-old men in connection with the incident.
