The Municipality of Tel Aviv will hold a "Palestinian embroidery workshop" on Tu B'Shvat, which will take place in about two weeks. The workshop is intended to honor the Jewish holiday, considered the new year for trees.
According to the municipality's website, "In this embroidery workshop, we will learn about the art of Palestinian embroidery in general and the Palestinian woman and her belongingness to the land in particular."
"Each village, city, and region is known for the fruits and flowers that grow there, so people can tell where you are from by the embroidery on your clothes. These embroideries also traditionally decorate all the textiles in the house," it says.
The workshop will take place for two and a half hours at the Well House in Tel Aviv, and is subsidized by the Tel Aviv Municipality for city residents. The Well House serves as a bilingual cultural center and displays local art.
Matan Peleg, chairman of the right wing organization, Im Tirzu, responded: "This shows a complete loss of values by the Tel Aviv Municipality." Bialik is rolling over in his grave. It will not help you. The people of Israel and the residents of Tel Aviv are smarter and will not succumb to brainwashing.''
