Haredi journalist Aryeh Ehrlich on Thursday evening published a photo which caused an uproar, and in which retired Supreme Court President Aharon Barak is seen wearing tefillin.
The photo was taken after Ehrlich's interview with Judge Barak for the haredi Mishpacha magazine. The interview was supposed to be published on the front page of this week’s issue, but the death of Rabbi Shimon Baadani from the Shas Council of Torah Sages forced a change of plans.
Ehrlich shared the photo on his Twitter account and wrote, "There was no point of agreement in the stormy and almost spontaneous conversation I had this week with Prof. Aharon Barak at his home. But then came a surprising twist. Look at the picture."
In the interview, Barak said "no to civil war" and explained the statements he made against the planned judicial reforms in a series of interviews he gave to Israeli media last week and which caused a firestorm.
